Bears CB Jaylon Johnson on No. 1 pick Caleb Williams: ‘He stands out’

The more time Chicago Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson spends with No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams, the more impressed he becomes with the rookie quarterback.

Speaking on Thursday night’s edition of NFL Network’s The Insiders, Johnson discussed his evolving impressions of Williams after facing him in spring workouts.

“For me, he just stands out,” Johnson remarked. “His arm talent is impressive, his maturity is evident, and his demeanor sets him apart. He’s eager to learn and absorb everything. What really stands out is his humility and grounded approach. Despite his potential to be cocky, he remains humble, understands the work he’s put in, and knows himself as a man. He comes in and handles business, earning respect from everyone in the locker room and throughout the organization. I’m excited about what he can bring in the future.”

Initially, Johnson supported Justin Fields during the offseason before accepting that the Bears would likely move on and draft Williams. He had previously clarified comments made in March about rookies like Williams not bringing “Hollywood stuff” into the team environment. Johnson has since reconciled with Williams and has consistently praised him since the draft.

Johnson’s recent remarks underline that any pre-draft concerns about Williams being “Hollywood” or entitled were unfounded from the beginning.

The next phase for Williams is to continue developing as both a quarterback and a leader as he enters his first training camp.

Bears rookies are scheduled to report for training camp on Tuesday, July 16th.
